Valencia-based language technology pioneer completes EU and government research which will help it qualify for prestigious "Innovative SME" recognition following breakthrough research

Pangeanic, a leading European language technology company, has completed a groundbreaking €476,487 research project funded by Spain's Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI) and co-financed by the European Union through the Multi-Regional ERDF Programme 2021-2027. The 18-month initiative has culminated in the development of a refined version with more agentic control of Deep Adaptive AI Translation and positioned Pangeanic as a certified AI Lab with enhanced capabilities for secure, privacy-focused translation solutions.

Revolutionary privacy-first translation technology

The project, titled "Retrieval-Augmented Generative AI for Privacy-Controlled Machine Translation," addresses a critical need in today's data-sensitive business environment. Unlike conventional translation tools, Pangeanic's system combines advanced AI with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology to deliver enterprise-grade translations that never compromise data security. The concept goes beyond the company's initial "DIY MT" in statistical MT and neural MT times to incorporate realistic, tested, agentic AI workflows that incorporate model adaptation, quality estimation, and automatic post-editing.

Key breakthrough capabilities include:

  • Dynamic contextual adaptation that learns from specialized industry terminology, company assets, ongoing human choices, reviewed material, and company-specific language
  • Privacy-by-design architecture ensuring sensitive information never leaves secure environments (compatible with private SaaS systems)
  • Human-level quality through AI-powered post-editing that rivals expert linguists
  • Real-time knowledge integration that allows translations to incorporate the latest industry developments and regulations

Beyond translation: A portfolio of AI innovation

The project's success has enabled other areas in Pangeanic to expand beyond traditional translation services, following and advancing market trends that point to translation companies and services becoming "Language Factories" as part of the LangOps movement.

Meeting Enterprise and Government Demands

"This project represents exactly what European innovation should achieve," said Manuel Herranz, CEO at Pangeanic. "We've created technology that doesn't just translate words – it understands context, protects privacy, scales and adapts to each organization's unique needs. For government agencies handling classified information or enterprises with proprietary data, this is a game-changer."

The solution is particularly valuable for:

  • Public administrations and Government as they require multilingual communication while maintaining data sovereignty
  • Healthcare organizations needing HIPAA/GDPR-compliant translation services
  • Financial institutions handling sensitive regulatory documentation
  • International corporations seeking consistent, brand-appropriate messaging across markets
  • Translation companies moving beyond traditional CAT-tool and TMS models to differentiate themselves with AI and reaching new business areas

Pioneering the evolution beyond traditional translation management

As industry leaders like Don DePalma, Arle Lommel, and Arthur Wetzel have debated the future of localization in 2025, and with the launch of the LangOps Institute, Pangeanic's breakthrough represents more than technological advancement—it signals a fundamental industry transformation. Traditional Translation Management Systems (TMS) are being superseded by intelligent, adaptive platforms that not only manage translation workflows but also actively enhance them. Pangeanic's Deep Adaptive AI Translation positions the company at the forefront of this shift, evolving from a traditional language service provider into a comprehensive "language factory" that seamlessly integrates translation, knowledge management, and AI-driven insights. This transformation addresses the industry's pressing need to move beyond the commoditization of basic translation services toward high-value, intelligent language solutions that encompass organizational knowledge and cultural intelligence.

Innovation success story

This achievement exemplifies successful EU-national collaboration in driving technological advancement. The €184,237 in EU ERDF funding, combined with Spain's CDTI support, has not only advanced Pangeanic's capabilities but contributed to Europe's strategic autonomy in AI and language technologies.

Project Details:

  • Duration: 18 months (January 2024 - June 2025)
  • Total Investment: €476,487
  • EU Contribution: €184,237 (ERDF funding)
  • Project ID: IDI-20240301
