Founding member of DS4M Mediterranean Project
Pangeanic Joins DS4M Mediterráneo to Accelerate Data-Driven Sustainable Mobility in the Mediterranean Corridor
The initiative, promoted by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and led by INTRAS (University of Valencia), seeks to create a secure, sovereign, and interoperable mobility Data Space to enable new services and business models.
Pangeanic announces its membership in DS4M Mediterráneo (Data Space for Mobility), an initiative funded by the European Union (Next Generation EU funds) and promoted by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Civil Service, within the framework of the Sectoral Data Spaces Promotion Plan.
The project's primary goal is to create a mobility Data Space in the Mediterranean Corridor—covering Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Region of Murcia, Andalusia, and Aragon—to allow data to be managed and shared securely, sovereignly, and efficiently, facilitating collaboration between public administrations, companies, technology centers, and mobility ecosystem operators.
What is DS4M Mediterráneo and Why It Matters
DS4M Mediterráneo is conceived as a demonstration center: a technological environment to test, validate, and simulate services, solutions, and business models based on shared data. Its purpose is to increase innovation, competitiveness, and sustainability in mobility through a common framework for data exchange and governance.

Project Objectives
- Drive strategic digital autonomy and data quality, maintaining and optimizing critical datasets and ensuring standards that increase trust and the added value of exchanged data.
- Improve sustainable, efficient, and secure mobility, fostering new services and solutions based on the use and analysis of shared data, and enhancing existing services.
- Facilitate and support the development of Access Points (RAPs, PAPs, LAPs) and their alignment with national and European access points (NAPs).
Prioritized Use Cases
Data for SUMPs and Territorial Plans
Data for the development and monitoring of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs), metropolitan, regional, and strategic plans, including interurban traffic management.
Monitoring Low Emission Zones (LEZ)
Monitoring and calculation of LEZs: measurement, modeling, and reporting for regulation and control.
More Cases in Development
Additional cases in the definition phase to expand capabilities toward multimodal mobility, demand analysis, and sustainable planning.
Pangeanic's Role in DS4M Mediterráneo
The addition of Pangeanic reinforces its commitment to applied innovation and its ability to contribute to ecosystems where data quality, interoperability, and governance are key. Within the project framework, Pangeanic will collaborate on initiatives focused on:
- Standardization, traceability, and data quality to increase exchange reliability and facilitate reuse by multiple actors.
- Advanced analytics and exploitation of shared data to accelerate the design of more efficient and sustainable mobility services.
- Support for sovereign "data sharing" architectures and responsible practices, aligned with the European vision of sectoral data spaces.
“A mobility data space only generates impact when it turns fragmented information into actionable decisions: planning, sustainability, and real services for citizens and organizations. In DS4M Mediterráneo, we want to provide capabilities to elevate data quality and accelerate measurable use cases.”
Ecosystem Benefits and Membership Opportunities
Benefits of participating in DS4M Mediterráneo include access to boost mechanisms, such as the Data Space Kit, and institutional recognition through an official membership certification issued by the Ministry.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is DS4M Mediterráneo?
DS4M Mediterráneo stands for Data Space for Mobility. It is a strategic initiative funded by the European Union (Next Generation EU) and promoted by the Spanish Ministry for Digital Transformation. Its goal is to create a secure, sovereign, and interoperable environment for sharing mobility data across the Mediterranean Corridor (Catalonia, Valencia, Murcia, Andalusia, and Aragon).
What is a "Data Space" and why is it important for mobility?
A Data Space is a decentralized infrastructure that allows different organizations (public and private) to share data without losing control over it. In mobility, this is crucial for connecting fragmented information (such as traffic patterns, public transport schedules, and environmental data) to create more efficient, sustainable, and multimodal transport services.
Why has Pangeanic joined the DS4M Mediterráneo initiative?
Pangeanic joined DS4M Mediterráneo to contribute its expertise in data engineering, quality standardization, and AI-driven analytics. Our role is to help transform raw, fragmented mobility data into high-quality, actionable assets for urban planning, sustainability reporting, and new business models.
How does this project support Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP)?
The initiative provides the data infrastructure cities need to develop and monitor their Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP). By accessing shared data from various transport operators, cities can better model traffic flows, manage Low Emission Zones (LEZs), and reduce carbon footprints through evidence-based decision-making.
Does DS4M Mediterráneo comply with European data sovereignty standards?
Yes. The project is fully aligned with the European Strategy for Data. It emphasizes data sovereignty, meaning data providers retain full control over who accesses their data and under what conditions, ensuring a secure, trusted alternative to proprietary, centralized platforms.
Who can participate in the DS4M Mediterráneo ecosystem?
The ecosystem is open to a wide range of actors, including public administrations, private transport operators, technology startups, and research centers. Participants can benefit from institutional recognition, access to specialized "Data Space Kits," and the opportunity to co-create the future of Mediterranean mobility.
