VALENCIA, SPAIN – 27 February 2017 Pangeanic the Valencia-based HQ of the group of
translation companies with a presence in the UK, China and Japan and Spain is pleased to announce the renewal of their Silver sponsorship of Translators without Borders (TWB). Pangeanic has a strong commitment with direct social action via its support of the Malima Project. It also regularly offers support for research into rare diseases and supports various sport events.
Commenting on the company’s decision to become a sponsor again, Pangeanic’s CEO Manuel Herranz said: "improving the living conditions and offering access to information to refugees and in regions of the world where access to education is not a right but a difficult choice is edged in our DNA as a socially responsible company. For example, the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 left a devastated country. The language industry showed its commitment to humanitarian causes by providing humanitarian translations for speakers of an under-resourced language. That marked the beginning of the organization Translators without Borders (TWB), and we were only happy to collaborate, following our own efforts
building schools and financing access to education in the remote North of Cameroon, an area which was beginning to be under the radar of Boko Haram."

Malima Project, which sponsors children’s (particularly young girls) education in the Sahel. Pangeanic’s
Spanish translation office and members of staff have been active sponsors. We have funded the building of two schools in the area, one of the most deprived regions of Cameroon." "I visited the Gouria, where the first school was built and surrounding villages back in 2012, living there for over 3 months", says Manuel. "It is impossible to get there now because of Boko Haram’s activism. Still, the project continues. I got to know the situation first-hand, seeing how the funds are well spent in the building of schools but involving local communities in the process so they have a sense of empowerment and ownership. Young children, particularly girls that would have never had basic access to education have been able to attend secondary school. A short summary of the work at Malima School can be seen on the
social responsibility section of the Pangeanic website. TWB’s mission and vision are so aligned with our own that it was only natural for us to join efforts. We support TWB’s work across the globe providing essential language assistance in cases of disaster relief, healthcare and education." "It contributes significantly to sustaining the minimal infrastructure required for TWB to do its work and it provides for the growth of the organization. Furthermore, according to UNICEF more people die from lack of knowledge than from disease. People in poorer countries are simply not able to access global knowledge in a language they can understand. Mobile technology may be bringing this knowledge closer to the bottom three billion, but we still need to bridge the ‘language last mile’. Translators without Borders is delivering this much needed help by developing a scalable program so that more people will be able to access the knowledge they need in a language they understand. We are incredibly grateful to Pangeanic for this assistance, which is critical to enable us, in turn, to support more humanitarian work around the globe."
