Empowering Users with Machine Translation Technology - Manuel Herranz Guest Speaker at TTT Conference

Manuel Herranz, as a representative from PangeaMT is an invited speaker at Iolar's TTT conference in Bled (Slovenia) 23rd-24th October, 2014. The conference gathers experts in several key areas to translation experts, from terminology, machine translation technology, sales, translations associations, etc.  Well-known figures such as Renato Beninatto, Stefan Gentz, Anne-Marie Colliander Lind, and the President of the EUATC – the European Union of Associations of Translation Companies Mirko Silvestrini, are also invited guests, with Joaquim Alves, from JABA Translations as the keynote speaker. With a focus on improving the daily work of translating practitioners, the conference will examine methods to increase productivity in the translation industry and improve translation skills. The transfer of theoretical knowledge into day-to-day practice features high in this very practical conference. Organizers aim to analyse how general trends in the translation industry change due to new methods of communication. Post-editing, a natural consequence of MT development will be the focus of some sessions. PangeaMT, as an open machine translation technology is included in the technology section. The title of our presentation " Empowering Users with Machine Translation Environments - PangeaMT" follows our philosophy and aim to empower translation practitioners and to let them be in control of machine translation rather than being passive users.

This section will provide an overview of current machine translation technologies used in the translation industry, providing an insight into what the future may bring for all of us: users of machine translation services and MT developers. PangeaMT, a division of Pangeanic, was set up precisely to empower users with the technology and free LSPs from the "passive purchasing" syndrome. Attendees will have an opportunity to obtain practical knowledge on NLP and MT issues in general, as well as advanced information through demonstrations of various tools and technologies already deployed at translation and localization companies. We will offer attendees the opportunity to learn from experts

  • what a DIY machine translation system really is away from the mystique
  • how to customize your own engines
  • grow your own machine translation department within your organization
  • efforts and advantages
  • how it behaves and how you can make the most of it
  • how a powerful API can open other business opportunites to a translation company to let it become "a true language provider" by opening access to its engines for fast translation to eCommerce sites, newsclips, etc.

Do not miss this opportunity to visit beautiful Slovenia and meet the experts in a friendly, approachable setting.
